Kristy McNichol finally comes Out as Lesbian

January 9, 2012 in Celebrity, News, Sexuality

Kristy McNichol of ‘Family,’ ‘Empty Nest’ comes out as a lesbian

As Kristy McNichol looks at turning 50 this year, the Emmy-winning “Family” actress has come out publicly as a lesbian, in support of kids who are being bullied.

McNichol, who has been living with partner Martie Allen for 20 years, decided to share a picture of the two of them with People magazine.
"She hopes that coming out can help kids who need support," her publicist told the mag. "She would like to help others who feel different."
The "Empty Nest" costar -- who as a teen won Emmy Awards in 1977 and 1979 for supporting actress in a drama, for her work as "Buddy," the youngest child
on "Family" -- has since left acting entirely. She told People in a 1989 interview that while working on a movie in 1982, she faced: "Nonstop crying. Nonstop anxiety. I was always shaking like a leaf. Freaking out, crying, confused."
Though rumors had swirled about drug abuse or bipolar disorder -- then called manic depression -- she said in 1989 that it was simply an emotional
breakdown, a delayed reaction to life as a child star. "From the time I was very young," she said at the time, "I was a professional, making money and
assuming responsibilities. I didn't live the life of a child. I was living the life of a 30-year-old."
In 1992, McNichol was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and left "Empty Nest" to attend to her health, according to Biography.
She decided to come out about her sexuality now because she was "very sad" about kids being bullied, and wanted to be open about who she is, she told
People. Meredith Baxter, who played her older sister Nancy on "Family," came out as a lesbian in December 2009.
McNichol, her rep said, is healthy and enjoys living a very private life. She turns 50 in September.

**********NOTE********

Did ANYBODY who saw her on Family as 'Buddy' NOT know she was a Lesbian? Anybody????

We should have told her 30 years ago then.

Presidential Primaries and Fantasy land

January 5, 2012 in News

Denial and the 2012 Republican Primary

So, here we go again. More fantasy propaganda from the so-called Republican frontrunners.

For the past 3 years the Republican led Senate in Washington has dragged their heels and done everything they could to derail every economic program presented by President Obama and the Democrats in Washington D.C.

Now we are in the 2012 Primary season, and the Republican hopefuls are spouting a plethora of half-truths and illusions about how little President Obama has done to help the economy, and how much damage he has caused.

They neglect to mention that he can’t force his programs on anyone, and that any program he comes up with has to be passed by both the Senate and the House before he can sign it into law.

Now with that being said, if there were a way for a President to arbitrarily pass laws and manipulate the economy at will, then there would be no reason to have a Senate or House of Representatives in Washington.

Over and over again, the Republicans have spewed forth their fantasies about how the U.S. Government works, constantly blocking every new Bill that they don’t like, even if it is for the benefit of the population.

It’s time for the Republican Party to open their eyes and actually try to do something FOR the people, instead of for themselves. If they were to do this, our economy would be much better, and there would be no DOMA blocking LGBTQ marriages.

Television Review- ‘Working It’

Review of ABC’s ‘Working It’

By Delta Starr

WTF?!?

This is 2012 right?????

Well, despite all of the pre-show bad press, I decided to give this sorry attempt at re-booting ‘Bosom Buddies’ a chance. Well, it’s bad, very bad. I have known many part-time crossdressers who were ex-football players, and everyone of them made much more attractive women than the two guys on this show.

Lee, a married father of a teenage daughter, looks like Owen Wilson after flunking out of Rupaul’s Drag U. As a man he’s presentable, but as a woman, not even a blind monkey with a learning disability would believe he was a she.

Then there is his best friend, Angel. A bald auto mechanic, with a libido that leads him around by the nose. In drag he does look more female than Lee, but he acts like the last Latino on Earth. He is the poster child for machismo, and no woman would allow herself to be alone with him/her for fear of being hit on. And the fact that he gets a sales job by fixing the car of the hiring manager when it won’t start. “She told me that any woman who would crawl under a car in a skirt deserves a chance”. Really? Really? Never happen!

As far as the biological females on the show are concerned, they must all be deaf and blind, with no sense of touch or smell, to believe that Lee and Angel are females. Even if they suspend disbelief, and give them the benefit of the doubt that they are transgender females, there couldn’t be that many women in a business setting who would not be able to tell these are just two guys in drag. To top it all off, Lee’s wife and daughter are so blind to what is happening, that they don’t even question his slip-ups. Trust me, I have lived around women all my life, and no woman who is as girly as the women on this show would miss the telltale signs that Lee and Angel give off. Someone would clock them, they just don’t have the skills to pull off a double life.

All this being said, once again a show that could have been a hit with different actors in the roles of Lee and Angel, will go down in flames. Even without the complaints from GLAAD, and several other LGBT groups, this show is doomed from the start. They could have given me the money they spent on this fiasco, and I could have delivered a believable product that would have been a huge hit. Oh well, some networks never learn.

Male, Female, or more than the sum of our parts

December 21, 2011 in News

What do you consider your gender to be?

Are you male?

Female?

A Masculine Woman?

A Feminine Man?

A Trans-Man?

A Trans-Woman?

Intergendered?

Gender-Queer?

Or maybe something else.

We all struggle with both sexual and gender identity in this polarized and binary world.

Unfortunately for most of us, our physical sex, and our psychological gender, don’t always match.

We may have been born biologically male, and mentally female, or the other way around.

This is only a small part of the sex/gender/identity spectrum. As we struggle to bring our bodies into harmony with our spirits, some of us realize that we are not able to find a place on the gender binary line.

We are what I have defined as Deltans.

A Deltan is a person who, like mant transgendered people, feel that they are in the wrong body. The difference is that Deltans are not out to completely transition from one anatomical binary sex to the other. These people are looking for a place in the middle.

They may be born male and seek to become more feminine, taking estrogen, having FFS, even having an orchiectomy to remove their testicles. The one thing they do not want is the final SRS procedure.

A Deltan is comfortable as an anomaly, someone who appears to be one gender, but has the sex organs of the other.

In every other way, on a daily basis, these people function and act in the role of the gender that they present as, nobody ever knowing that they are something more.

If this were all that made a person a Deltan, it would be simple to designate them as pre-op trans-people.  However the variations are more subtle. Deltans may also be attracted to other Deltans, binary gendered people who match the gender that the Deltans present as, or even opposite binary gendered people who have non-conforming or ambiguous sexual attributes.

Therefore we have created this site as a place where Deltans, LGBTQ individuals, and Heterosexual, binary-gendered friends and allies, can find information, share resources, and meet others, in a friendly and nonjudgmental environment.
